It was his second victory, his sixth top-three finish and his 25th top-10 finish. The veteran has earned more than half a million euros in prize money from 157 starts on the tour. His DP World Tour résumé also includes an impressive runner-up finish at the 2018 Porsche European Open.

After firing a superb 61 on Friday to take the lead, Blomstrand followed it up with rounds of 70 and 68 over the final two days. He won comfortably enough to even afford himself two bogeys over the last four holes. His compatriot Adam Wallin finished two shots behind. Wallin had started Sunday in 25th place but carded a remarkable 62. Results

In the HotelPlanner Tour season standings, Blomstrand climbed from 27th to fifth, while Wallin moved from 16th to sixth. South African MJ Daffue and Spaniard Pablo Ereno remain at the top of the rankings, although both missed the cut in Scotland. Among those who also failed to make the cut were third-ranked Hamish Brown, fourth-ranked Julien Sale (for the second event in a row), Maxence Giboudot, who dropped to seventh (also missing the cut for the second consecutive time), as well as several players who have won events this season: Rory Franssen (winner of the Estonian event), Ryan Van Velzen, Chris Wood, Will Enefer and Filip Mruzek, who withdrew. A total of 290 players have earned ranking points on the season so far, including four Estonians. Season standings

Carl Hellat, the only Estonian to make the cut, was still in contention for a high finish (top 20) late on Saturday, but bogeys on the final two holes saw him tumble to 54th in a tightly packed leaderboard. Sunday did not go his way, as a 79 left him at +4 overall and in 63rd place. Nevertheless, earning his first professional ranking points and €817 represents another page in Estonian golf history.

Markus Varjun shot 69 and 72 to finish three shots outside the cut. Kevin Christopher Jegers’ tournament effectively ended on Thursday with a 76; despite a very solid 68 on Friday, he could do no better than a share of 120th place.

The HotelPlanner Tour continues already on Thursday with the start of the Irish Challenge. Ralf Johan Kivi will be the only Estonian in the field.

Carl Hellat summed up his tournament: “My ball-striking was pretty good at times, but on the final day I had a couple of bad tee shots and a couple of bad breaks on the approaches to the greens, and unfortunately the round was gone. Over the final two days, I struggled more and more with my putting. I lost the right rhythm and started making more mistakes as a result. Overall, I played at a C- or D-level.”

Markus Varjun on the tournament: “The first day was very solid. Towards the end of the round, I also missed a couple of short birdie putts, but overall it was very promising. On the second day, I struggled to get off the tee well, put myself in too many difficult positions and found it hard to create birdie opportunities. I was mostly having to focus on saving par.”

The HotelPlanner Tour’s Scottish Challenge was won by 34-year-old Swede Cristofer Blomstrand.
