Richard Teder earns DP World Tour spot with commanding victory
The Turkish Amateur Open concluded yesterday at Kaya Palazzo Golf Club (par 72). Estonian men´s national team representative Richard Teder took part in the event and was crowned the tournament´s clear winner.
Teder got off to a very strong start, setting a new course record of 65 strokes (-7) in the opening round, improving the previous record by three shots. He continued in the same rhythm on the second day, repeating his first round performance with another 65 (-7). Weather conditions became significantly more challenging on the final day, which was reflected in higher scores. Teder carded a final round score of +2 (74), but his lead over the chasing field was large enough that the victory was never in doubt. His three round total of -12 (65, 65, 74) gave him a seven shot winning margin over second place. Results
With the tournament victory, Teder earned a spot in the DP World Tour event Turkish Airlines Open, which will take place from April 30 to May 3 at National Golf Club in Belek.
Richard Teder’s comment: “The most important thing this week was to keep the ball in play off the tee, as the course was very, very tight. On two of the three days there was extremely strong wind, and the final day required dealing with the toughest conditions I’ve faced so far in my career. I struggled with short putts on the greens all week, so setting the course record and repeating it the next day was purely down to my driving and iron play. Overall, I’m definitely very satisfied — the goal was to earn a DP World Tour wild card, and I managed to do that. Now it’s back to work and continuing to fine-tune my game.”
