A new chapter in Estonian golf history was written yesterday when Kevin Christopher Jegers passed the cut in the qualifying round at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in England and reached the top 64. Kevin’s round was 74 (+3) strokes, dividing him to 30th place. The round of the first day was notoriously canceled due to the terrible weather and the weather of the second round was very windy, but at least it was not raining. Today, the match play will start, where the winner of the 125th tournament will be announced. In the match starting at 13:29 against Kevin Christopher Jegers, Connor Wilson from Scotland played 72 shots yesterday and shared 9th place. The Scot holds the 333rd position in the world rankings.

Royal Birkdale Golf Club, near Liverpool, has hosted The Open, the oldest major golf tournament, 10 times. Last, in 2017, when Jordan Spieth was the winner. The Amateur Championship will be held on this field for the third time. The Amateur Championship has been won by the Spaniards Sergio Garcia (1998), Alejandro Larrazábal (2002) and the Finn Mikko Ilonen (2000), among others.

Kevin commented: “The game was very good, everything went as I planned. Due to a strong wind, the ball was not allowed to hit the ball high from the ground, the whole round we had to hit the ball. I went to the course with the idea to just hit as many fairways as possible, because it was very difficult to hit the ball from the rough or find it at all. The course itself is super, by far the most difficult field I’ve ever played.
